WHAT IS REQUIEM ABOUT?

REQUIEM is an art piece about a traumatic break up, morphed into an abstract interpolation of layered metaphors, heartbreaking scenes, and teeming walls of sound in a 9-track compilation of indie electronic, indie pop, & multiple other genres of hypnotizing music.

On track track 1, “WBF.zip”, the listener is immediately immersed into DONTPANIC’s most fond memories with his past girlfriend, featuring a memory at the Texas State Fair, as well as a memory lying in bed obsessing over each other. They are then transported into a conversation with the master computer.

The computer explains that the listener is about to enter a simulation in order to cure the negative emotions that have been experienced since the separation. The file being installed, the “Well-Being File”, is being installed in order to condition the listener’s emotions and artificially prevent any negative impact from the fallout of the relationship.

The rest of the album is a fantastical roller coaster of an emotional battle, fighting through hills and valleys of the worst experiences post-breakup. Every song is packed with real world events, metaphors, and hand-crafted music from the mind of DONTPANIC.

WHAT KIND OF MUSIC CAN I EXPECT?

REQUIEM is densely packed with many genres and influences, spanning from the 70’s all the way to the 2020’s.

The music of this album spans from highly energetic dance music, to electronic ballads that do not include the grooves of any drums, to skits that feel straight from a cinematic film. You can expect genres in the realm of:

ELECTRONIC + DANCE MUSIC, ALTERNATIVE POP, INDIE POP, LOFI, 80s HAIR METAL, HEAVY ALTERNATIVE ROCK, & MORE

WHO/WHAT ARE THE INSPIRATIONS FOR REQUIEM?

REQUIEM is heavily inspired by many musical artists, such as Dijon, Magdalena Bay, FKA Twigs, brakence, mk.gee, Tame Impala, Reaper, and Def Leppard.

Many movie and TV show references include Requiem for a Dream, Mr. Nobody, The Matrix, Alien, When the Wind Blows, Click, Black Mirror, and more.

Some of the video game inspiration comes from Silent Hill (1 + 2 in particular) [listen to song “CIRCLES feat. CHXXMPA for deeply engrained Silent Hill referencing, including in the instrumental), Signalis, Resident Evil, & The Last of Us.
